Dearborn Was Buzzing Imagine the mixed emotions Ford executives had in 1934 when they received letters from both John Dillinger and Clyde Barrow. Both gangsters were so happy with the look and performance of the 1934 Roadster that they took time out from bank robbing to write their appreciation directly to Ford(. And the rest of the public was dazzled also. Ford sales jumped 68% over 1933, very impressive numbers for the middle of the Great Depression.

The Greyhound Leads the Way Although the 1934 Roadster did not have major styling changes from previous years, Ford designers did come up with a few new wrinkles. The hood, radiator, and grille were redesigned and the Greyhound hood ornament was introduced. Performance was improved also as the Stromberg two-barrel carburetor boosted horsepower on the 221 cubic inch V8 engine 12%. All this plus the first ever cast-alloy steel crankshaft for only $525.
