1953 Chevrolet® Bel Air Sport Coupe

Chevrolet Bel Airs Dominate the Decade No car model of the 1950’s is more customized, collected or revered than the Chevrolet Bel Air. America’s love affair with the Bel Air started in 1953. General Motor’s engineers and designers gave the Bel Air a complete facelift, inside and out. Two-tone body paint and a new Fashion-First Body by Fisher gave the exterior of the Bel Air the modern stylish look 1953 consumers demanded. But the biggest change was under the hood. Chevrolet introduced the “Blue Flame”, a 235.5 cubic inch 115 horsepower engine that provided new power and passing ability. Americans agreed with this changes and bought over 1.3 million Chevys in 1953, a half-million increase over 1952.
