From Tacoma to the World T.A. Peterman had a simple dream in the late 1930’s. He wanted to build a fleet of heavy duty trucks to transport lumber from his company in Washington. Taking over the often bankrupt Fageol/Sterling Motor Company, he produced the first Peterbilt trucks in 1941. The next two decades saw this name become synonymous with class and performance until Paccar, owners of Kenworth, bought the company in 1958.
