1917 REO Grand Touring Sedan

The Gold Standard of Value Ransom Eli Olds was one of America’s pioneering automotive innovators. In 1886 he developed his first steam powered 3-wheel vehicle. By 1896 he produced his first gasoline powered car and five years later he was mass-producing Oldsmobiles. Olds was always more interested in the technical side of the business rather than the business side. These priorities caused him to leave the company with his name in 1904 to form one based on his initials, the REO Motor Company. There his goal was to produce luxury cars at reasonable prices, adopting the slogan “The Gold Standard of Value”. Although the 1917 REO was not for every budget, starting at $1250, it was priced well under other luxury cars. The Grand Touring Car was the top of the line, featuring luxurious upholstery and seating seven with its rear jump seat.
