1968 Pontiac GTO Bossman ArnieBeswick Racing Series

Mike Rutherford`s 428 cid. H.P. Pontiac GTO Bossman When you wanted a `68 GTO Built for a King you needed to look no further than Arnie Beswick. Mike Rutherford, a friend of Beswick`s, wanted just such car, and Arnie made it happen. Beswick called Royal Pontaic in Royal Oak, Michigan, a legendary dealership whose niche was offering a large selection of ultra-high performance and specialty Pontiacs. Within mintues of the phone call, Rutherford`s dreamof owninga GTO commanded by a 428 cid. H.P. powerplantbecame a reality.
The Car to Beat... Since this was the first new 1968 body style to receive the Royal Treatmen, Popular Hot Rodding Magazine inquired about using the car for a cover shot for one of its future issuses. Rutherford agreed to wait the extra time for the magazine to record the historic engine swap, and when the transformation was completed, he regularly had Beswick tune and occassionally drive his Royal Bobcat 428 GTO in Competition. As the article in Popular Hot Rodding aptly put it, Its best not to be around when this GTO comes calling! It came calling frequently, and was soon known as the car to beat.
While the car`s impressive track record may have been enough for most, Beswick and Rutherford were not most, and they decided they wanted a few more Tigers in the tank. Beswick received a prototype set of round exhaust port heads to see if they could enhance the performance of the formidable GTO. The heads were installed, but no exhaust manifolds were available. The car was transported to JR Headers in Ferndale, Michigan, as they already done some Pontiac header installations. A set of fabricated headers was a perfect fit.
The Bossman thrashed all Challengers... Later dubbed the BossMan, the car made short work of Midwest street and strip races from `68-`71. There were a few Gluttons for Punishment who after getting beat, ran home with their tails between their legs to install serious power enhancers to their rides, only to come back and be thrashed again!
Bob Adams, from Joliet, Illinios, recently purchased the car from Rutherford and it isbeing completely restored so its body and engine are returned to its 1968 performance and apperance standards.
