After D-Day it was the U.S. infantry that overcame terrible weather, tank-grounding fuel shortages and the German army to march through France into the heart of Germany. The U.S. Infantry was better equipped, better trained, and better led than the Germans, who were a combination of the too old, the too young, and a few battle-weary veterans.
