WWII Fighter Legend

P51D Fighter - 1:72 Scale

WWII Fighter Legend P51D Fighter Improved Performance Fighters Help Win Battle of the Skies Entering WWII, American fighter planes were outgunned and out powered by the enemy. The challenge to develop planes that could outmaneuver and outfight the German Messerschmitt and Japanese Zero was one of the greatest of the war. American ingenuity and “can-do” attitude provided rapid improvements and resulted in American superiority in the sky. North American Aviations P-51 saw similar changes as it was improved to the P-51D. The engine was changed from an Allison to a Packard V-1650, increasing horsepower 40%. Speed increased from 390 mph to 437 and combat range, crucial in the Pacific, doubled. This P-51D was piloted by Lt. Col. Ed McComas to all 14 of his victories in the Pacific theater of operations.
