Loud and Proud Legendary Muscle Cars 1966 Shelby GT350 When Ford asked Carroll Shelby to develop the GT350, they wanted a car that would outperform the Corvette on the race track and on the road. The GT350 more than succeeded. With a modified 306hp V8 under the hood, this Shelby creation demanded respect. 1969 Camaro Z28 Created so that Chevrolet could compete in the prestigious Trans Am Championship, Chevrolet had to build 1000 of the Z28 that could be sold to the public - factory built race cars. The Z28 had an abundance of high-end power, easily cruising at 120mph, and was underrated at 290bhp. 1973 Firebird Trans Am Part of the second generation Firebirds that debuted in 1970, this muscle car carried on when most manufacturers abandoned the genre. Although new government emissions regulations took effect in 1973, the Trans Am had plenty of low-end power left over. The '73 Trans Am and Formula models are considered the last of the true muscle Firebirds.
