The Dixieland Express
GM Old Look Trailways Bus
Between 1940 and 1958, General Motors built 38,000 buses in the style that is now known as the Old Look. Our Carolina Coach C-5401 is a precision die-cast replica of the very first one produced. In 1936 the Interstate Commerce Commission encouraged independent bus companies to form the National Trailways Bus System to compete with Greyhound. In 1949 Carolina Coach was responsible for organizing the Dixieland Route from Raleigh, N.C. to Dallas, TX. Greyhound purchased Continental Trailways in 1986, the largest of these companies, but others, like Carolina Coach, continue operating today.
