Fords to the Rescue
1934 Ford Tow Truck and 1932 Highway Patrol Coupe
V-8 Engine Provides Dependability and Power
In the early 1930's, Ford's Model A, with its 4-cylinder engine, was outsold and outpowered by Chevrolet's Stovebolt 6. In 1932 Henry Ford shocked the automotive world by jumping right to a V-8 engine. It is no wonder the 1932 Ford is still celebrated 75 years later as the Little Deuce Coupe. Its 65-horsepower V-8 engine, classic look and rumble seat made it the most memorable car of that era.
By 1934 almost every Ford truck featured the V-8 engine, now upped to 85-horsepower. This pickup has been converted into a tow truck by repositioning the rear axle and adding a wood-look plank flatbed and chains. So popular was Ford's V-8 that in 1934 over 1 million cars and trucks were sold with that engine, an incredible accomplishment in the depths of the Great Depression.

Refining the Lead Sled
1951 was the third year of the "lead sled" design that lifted Ford from the brink of bankruptcy in 1949. Most experts rate the '51 Fords as the best looking of that era due to the new front grille and ultra-modern horizontal taillights. This look of quiet refinement helped Ford keep its sales over the 1 million mark despite Korean War restrictions that limited production and access to raw materials. The Custom Convertible was Ford's only ragtop in 1951, selling 40,934 for $1949.

1958 Ford Fairlane 500 Sunliner
It Was the Best of Times; It Was the Worst of Times
1958 was a rollercoaster year for the Ford Motor Company. Sales were down 35% due to the recession and Ford lost money the first 3 quarters of the year. But the new 4-seat Thunderbird was Motor Trend's Car of the Year. On the downside, the new Edsel was, to put it mildly, an ice-cream colored bomb. For the regular Ford line, 1958 was a year of complete restyling. The grille was a honeycomb design with simulated air scoop on the hood. This sculptured look was repeated on the rear deck. New Cruise-O-Matic transmission had higher torque which was needed for the new big block V-8 engines. The Fairlane 500 Sunliner added dual headlights and sweeping beltline molding for a more futuristic look. 35,029 Sunliners were produced with the V-8 version like our precision die-cast replica costing $2749.
