Boeing-Vertol Chinook
First developed in 1961; they served in Viet Nam as Flying Trucks of the U.S. Army. Britains Royal Air Force started purchasing them in 1978 and deployed 15 during the 1991 Gulf War. A medium lift copter with a 10,000 foot ceiling, it proved valuable for medical evacuations (it could hold 24 stretchers), fire fighting, and search and rescue besides its primary function of transport.
