London's Cab for 40 Years Austin FX4 Taxi An English Icon We've all seen them on TV and in the movies. In fact, there's hardly a London-based street scene shot in the 40 year period between 1958 and 1997 that does not include an Austin FX4 taxi. Designated the Standard London Cab by the Public Carriage office, the FX4 was a collaboration between taxi dealer Main & Overton, coachbuilder Carbodies and Austin. Our version is from the early 1970's, evidenced by the taillights which now have turn indicators rather than the roof “bunny ears' used on earlier versions.
