American Airlines Douglas DC-3 - 1:144 Scale

Most Important Aircraft Ever Produced American Airlines Douglas DC-3 Revolutionized Air Transport In order to compete with United Airlines Boeing 247, TWA commissioned Douglas to come up with a superior plane. This project became the DC-1 followed by the DC-2. In 1935 American Airlines wanted to go one step further with a plane capable of transatlantic flights and sleeping berths. The Douglas DC-3, powered by 2 1200 horsepower Pratt and Whitney radial piston engines, had a 1300 mile range and could either seat 24 or sleep 16. So popular was the DC-3 that over 10,000 were built as C-47’s for the Allies during WWII. Today, over 70 years after its first flight, DC-3’s are still being flown commercially in certain parts of the world.
