The Finest of 1970's American Muscle
1971 Chevelle Super Sport 454 Convertible
Ultimate Powerhouse of Mid-Size Muscle
1971 was not the best of years for muscle-loving ragtop fanatics. First, insurance companies began charging hefty premiums for muscle cars like Chevrolet's Super Sports. Second, sales for convertibles were almost gone. Only 5,084 convertibles were sold out of almost 300,000 Chevelles. The SS 454 package added $485 to the base convertible price of $3,260. 19,992 Chevelles of all types added this package. Besides the 454 cubic inch, 365hp. V-8 engine, this package also included a blacked out front grille and dual chrome exhausts. In jet black with white racing stripes, this is a showroom perfect replica of the car that thundered down American highways almost 40 years ago.
