1971 Alpine Renault 1600s
The Design of the Alpine Renault
Before founding The story of the Alpine Renault begins right after World War 2 with a former garage proprietor named Jean Redele. Redele became successful racing modified Renault 4CV`s in major events including Mille Miglia and Coupe De Alpes. Modifications included upgraded transmissions, lightweight bodies, and most important, a stiff central-tube backbone chassis.
In 1962 a revised chassis design along with upgraded parts from Renault formed the basis of what would become the Alpine Renault 1600S. Real success came in 1968 with outright wins in major international events, and in 1971 the Alpine placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd at Monte Carlo (again repeated in 1973). Eventually, the model went on to win the World Rally Championship, beating the likes of Rally contemporaries Ford, Porsche and Lancia.
