"Mustang's Big Brother"
1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator
Ford Heritage, Mercury Style
Originally born from a stretched-out Mustang chassis, the Mercury Cougar followed the Lincoln-Mercury formula as an upscale alternative to the simpler Fords. Featuring the Cougar Spoiler, a functioning ram-air hood scoop, sequential turn indicators, and a restyled front, the Eliminator grabbed your attention. Unfortunately, all that style carried more weight, leaving the Cougar a step behind the lighter, nimbler Mustangs of the day (yet still faster than most others). The 428 Cobra Jet Engine is still considered one of the finest muscle car engines ever produced, and as part of the legendary 'Drag Pak' option this was one of the fastest accelerating muscle cars on the road.
