The Goddess
1961 Citroen DS 19 Cabriolet
Years Ahead of the Competition
When Citroen unveiled the DS 19 at the 1955 Paris Auto Show, pandemonium broke out. This replacement for the aging Traction Avant (literally front wheel drive) garnered 1200 orders the first day of the show. Ultramodern in design, it was a great marriage of form and function. The all independant suspension had a variable height adjustment for rocky roads or tire changes. The DS 19 held the road like glue. For twenty years from 1955 to 1975, the Goddess, as the French called the DS 19, held the mantle as the car every Frenchman wanted to drive.
