The Beginning of the Modern Classic Era
For the last 50 years, no cars have been more constantly admired than the 1955 Chevrolet Hot Ones. An immediate success in 1955, with record sales of over 1.7 million, today the 1955-57 Modern Classic Chevys are still so popular they have been given their own category in car shows. Totally new styling featuring egg-crate grilles, wrap-around windows and the first Chevrolet V-8 in over 35 years, enabled Chevy sales to leap past Ford by over 250,000 vehicles.
Bel Air Sport Coupe
Almost 185,000 of these were produced, selling for $2067 with the V-6 engine, slightly higher for the V-8. The 50 millionth GM car was a two-tone 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air Sport Coupe.
