1954 Mercedes-Benz 300SL
For the American Enthusiasts
American importer Maximilian E. Hoffman urged Mercedes-Benz to build a road car in the image of its successful racing coupe, and Mercedes-Benz obliged in 1954. The 300SL was the first gasoline-powered car to feature fuel-injection, creating nearly twice the power of its carbureted predecessor. With a top speed of 161 miles-per-hour, the SL was the fastest production car of its time.
