50th Anniversary Special 1953 Buick Skylark But Where Are the Portholes? Buicks post-war styling feature was dropped for their 50th Anniversary dream car, the Skylark convertible. Part of G.M.'s 1953 class of production dream cars, along with the Cadillac El Dorado, Chevrolet Corvette, and Oldsmobile Fiesta, the Skylark had a unique look designed to compete with European styling. Most dramatic was the lack of rear skirt. To this open look were added sporty Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels. At $5000, the Skylark cost more than the basic Cadillac and 1690 were produced.
