First Post-War Mercedes
1950 Mercedes-Benz 170 Cabriolet
Only Tools to Survive the War
Prior to WWII, the 170 was 'Mercedes-Benz' version of an economy car. In the early 1940's you could buy one for $1250. It was their first mass-produced car with over 100,000 made prior to the war. With every Mercedes-Benz factory bombed to rubble, only the tooling for the 170 survived. Despite its old-fashioned look with "suicide" doors, exposed head lamps, 4-cylinder engine and sweeping fenders, over 150,000 were sold from 1947 until the introduction of the 300-series in 1955.
