An Automotive Work of Art
1948 Lincoln Continental Club Coupe
A Lasting Beauty
There really was nothing new in the 1948 Lincoln Continental. It still used pre-war styling, although the grille was new, and the V-12 engine originally developed for the 1936 Zephyr. But in 1951 when the Museum of Modern Art selected 8 cars as Automotive Works of Art, the 1948 Continental topped the list. It's crisp clean lines with minimal brightwork and, of course, Continental spare tire, gave it timeless beauty that looks as good 60 years later. At $4662, only 847 Club Coupe's were produced, possibly because the luxury car buyer did not want to wrestle with standard transmission.
