1940 was not a particularly good sales year for Ford as Chevrolet outsold it 3 to 2. But as the years passed by, these beautiful Eugene Gregorie-desgined cars with their teardrop styling have taken their place among the most admired ever. Police departments flocked to the Deluxe Business Coupe (now referred to as the Opera Coupe) because of its $742 price and the power and economy of the 25mpg 85 horsepower V-8 engine. Later generations fell in love with the long deck and flowing body curves, making it the hot rodders favorite.
