The First Peterbilt Truck
1939 Peterbilt S-100 Pumper
Not What He Had in Mind
When Al Peterman, a Washington lumber magnate, saved Fageol Trucking from bankruptcy in 1938 his goal was to develop a chain-driven logging truck. After two failed attempts to do this, he broadened his horizons and the Peterbilt Trucking Company was born. The very first sale they had, truck S-100, was a chassis sold to the O.M. Hurst Company in Sacramento. They built it as a fire engine and it was eventually sold to Fremont, California.
