Finest for the Finest
1938 Chevrolet N.Y.C. Police Car
Visible, Fast and Dependable
To combat the growing traffic problems, in 1938 the New York City Police Department ordered all radio-patrol cars to be painted in more visible two-tone color schemes and have a roof-mounted, flashing Police sign. Naturally, the Finest bought the #1 selling car in America, Chevrolet, to carry their new colors. This Master Deluxe Coupe is one of 36,108 produced that year for $714. Characterized by its new grille with vertical bars, the 85 horsepower Inline 6 engine provided the power and dependability needed for inner city police work.
