The Cops Loved it Too
1934 Ford Deluxe Fordor State Police Car
Ford Back in the Black
In 1934, Ford made its first profit since 1930. Perhaps anticipating this, Henry Ford allowed alcohol, now legal again, to be served for the first time at the press preview. Although little changed outside, the V-8 engine had its horsepower increased by 10 to 85. This plus the addition of a Stromberg carburetor and new air cleaner, gave the Fords enough speed to capture the first 10 spots in the Gilmore Cup Race. In April of 1934, Clyde Barrow wrote his famous note to Henry Ford thanking him for the dandy car he made. Police forces throughout the U.S. agreed and the Deluxe Fordor with body by Briggs was a favorite. All told, over 102,000 Deluxe Fordors were sold, almost all with the V-8 engine.
